Marianna
Michael Pozzan is proud to present Marianna, an elegant red blend of classic Bordeaux varietals: cabernet sauvignon, merlot, cabernet franc, petit verdot and malbec. Marianna is as special as its namesake—Michael’s wife, Mary Ann, who encouraged him to walk in his grandfather’s footsteps and follow his winemaking dreams. Enjoy with family and close friends who share a passion for fine cuisine. Marianna is an exceptional value, with limited quantities available.
2011 Napa Valley Red Wine
100% Napa Valley
85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Malbec, 4% Petit Verdot
Aged 22 Months in French Oak
This wine has medium plum color with red brick edges. The aromas are ripe with bing and sour cherry notes, cassis, cedar and cigar box. The palate is ripe with cherry, boysenberry, mocha and wild raspberry flavors that are integrated well with French oak allowing a long and sophisticated silky finish.
Marianna represents the finest Michael Pozzan has to offer from the Napa Valley. This wine is always a Bordeaux blend and this year it is comprised of mostly Cabernet Sauvignon with Malbec and Petit Verdot backing it up elegantly. It was aged in French oak for 22 months and racked 5 times. This wine will age if properly stored through 2030.
The wine (if consumed with food) pairs well with grilled bone-in rib eye steak with a demi glaze and roasted fingerling potatoes tossed in Rosemary and sea salt. It is a fine choice for a home cooked meal in the dead of winter, such as pot roast with parsnip mashed potatoes and carrots.
1,200 six pack cases produced (or 600 cases).
2010 Napa Valley Marianna Bordeaux Blend
71% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Malbec, 8% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc
Aged for 16 months in 50% new French oak and 50% 2 year old French oak
The 2010 Marianna is perhaps Michael Pozzan's finest wine, as it should be; it's named after his lovely wife. This wine is always made from Napa Valley's finest Bordeaux varietals, and aged in fine French oak barrels for 16-18 months. The 2010 Marianna is our greatest vintage to date. It is so structured that it requires decanting for optimal appreciation. This wine will be best with several years of careful cellaring.
The deep plum color illustrates its youth and will ultimately transition into a fine deep brick red over the next 10+ years. The wine will start to mature toward its prime in 2022 and will drink fine through 2030 (and beyond). The aromas are dense with ripe black cherry, cassis, and a hint of cigar box. On the palate, this wine is seductive with sweet blue fruit (blueberry, huckleberry, and ripe boysenberry) and French oak flavors. The tannins are firm but not at all bitter. The texture expresses a carefully crafted wine aged in the proper barrels for the right amount of time. Our 2010 Marianna finishes with silky tannins, which over time will soften and reveal a classic.
This wine pairs exceptionally well with red meat, especially bone-in Rib Eye or New York steaks served with a Demi-glaze, béarnaise or mushroom sauce. We prefer either heavily seasoned roasted fingerlings, or flat wedges of russets with sea salt and sautéed spinach, kale or beet greens. Also, and perhaps more important, this is a special wine that pairs best with good friends and loved ones. It really needs no food at all! Simply put, this is a perfect wine for a special night by the fire.
2009 Napa Valley Marianna Bordeaux Blend
The 2009 Marianna Napa Valley is our winery's ninth release of this Bordeaux style red wine. It is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Malbec, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc
This elegant classically blended Bordeaux style wine is beautifully deep colored medium plum with brick red edges. The very ripe aromas jump out of the glass with refined ripe raspberry and cassis extract. The entry on the palate is supple with a black cherry and strawberry coulis flavor that folds into a matrix of generous French oak, rich in vanilla and cocoa. The texture is supple with rich, ripe cherry vanilla deftly framed onto medium resolved tannins and expresses the core balance that only true Claret can bring due to the use of all five Bordeaux varietals. The ripe base is all Cabernet Sauvignon, a silky mid palate from Merlot, a light handed dusting of spice from Cabernet Franc with structure and deep color from Petit Verdot, with refined top note fruit flavors from Malbec.
This is a very serious wine that should be enjoyed on special occasions and will do well with rich foods such as seared Filet Mignon in a demi-glaze sauce, roasted fingerling potatoes tossed in truffles and sea salt and steamed blue lake beans. Drink it now through 2030.
2007 Napa Valley Marianna Bordeaux Blend
The 2007 Napa Valley Marianna is our winery's eighth release of this Bordeaux style red wine. It is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot.
This wine has an amazing deep garnet color. The fruitiness of it pairs well with the oak accents. There are cassis, boysenberry and plum notes which harmonize with the chocolate and hazelnut from the oak aging. This is a full bodied wine with a velvety mouth feel. It is a well structured wine and as such, it will age well. This wine has a long, lingering, luscious finish. The complexity of this wine really develops as it opens up. This wine will pair well with a variety of dishes. Try it with roast duck. Drink it now through 2014. 1,500 cases made.
